Starting the day with a cup of tea can be a simple ritual or a mindful experience. For those (like myself!) beginning to explore herbs and their medicinal qualities, creating a personalized tea blend offers a unique way to connect with nature and support well-being. This morning, a blend of ginger, nettle, lemon, cinnamon, and ashwagandha was crafted to discover a new favorite combination for the season. Each ingredient brings its own character and benefits, making the blend both flavorful and nourishing.

Understanding the Ingredients
Ginger
Ginger adds a spicy warmth that awakens the senses. Known for its digestive support, it can help soothe the stomach and reduce inflammation. Fresh or dried, ginger’s bright flavor cuts through the blend, making it lively and invigorating.
Nettle
Nettle is a powerhouse of nutrients, rich in vitamins A, C, and K, as well as minerals like iron and calcium. It has a mild, grassy taste that balances the stronger flavors. Traditionally, nettle supports the immune system and promotes detoxification.
Lemon
Lemon brings a fresh, citrusy brightness that lifts the entire blend. Its vitamin C content supports immunity, and the tangy flavor adds a refreshing contrast to the earthier herbs.
Cinnamon
Cinnamon offers a sweet, woody aroma and a hint of spice. It is often used to help regulate blood sugar and improve circulation. In this blend, cinnamon adds depth and warmth, making the tea comforting and satisfying.
Ashwagandha
Ashwagandha is an adaptogen, known for helping the body manage stress and improve energy levels. Its slightly bitter, earthy taste blends well with the other herbs, contributing to a balanced and calming effect.
How to Prepare the Blend
Creating this tea blend is straightforward and rewarding. Here’s a simple method to try:
Use about 1 teaspoon of dried nettle leaves.
Add 1/2 teaspoon of dried ginger or a small slice of fresh ginger.
Include 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon sticks or ground cinnamon.
Add a pinch of ashwagandha powder.
Squeeze fresh lemon juice into the brewed tea or add a thin slice of lemon during steeping.
Steep the herbs in hot water (around 200°F or 93°C) for 5 to 7 minutes. Adjust steeping time to taste, as longer steeping intensifies the flavors and medicinal properties.
Experiencing the Blend
Today I needed a little extra comfort and wasn't entirely aware of it until I was aware I was better. December is historically a slow month for me. I head into November with an abundance of energy and drive and by December my gusto really tapers off. December is not however a historically slow month for just about anything and I often find myself at odds needing to stay home and cozy up or make good on promises made during my social November phase. Taking a moment to have a cup of tea with myself was very needed and very nourishing- the tea blend was lovely too :)
