Cycle Syncing Insights: Embracing Day 4 of My Menstrual Phase with Herbal Wisdom

Starting my cycle syncing journey in the last few days of the luteal phase and now being on day 4 of menstruation, I’ve been paying close attention to how my body feels, what it needs, and how herbal blends can support this natural rhythm. This post shares my personal diary notes, focusing on the menstrual phase, the herbal tea I’m using, the foods I’m eating, and how the moon phase ties into this process. If you’re curious about cycle syncing or want to explore herbal support during your period, this might offer some useful insights.

Understanding the Menstrual Phase and Its Goals

The menstrual phase marks the start of a new cycle, a time when the body sheds the uterine lining. This phase often brings lower energy levels, a need for rest, and a chance to reflect inwardly. My goal during this phase is to support gentle detoxification, soothe inflammation, and nurture my body with calming herbs. I like to think of the mentrual phase as a time to "Release without force, rest without guilt".

In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), this phase is about "closing the portal," a time to conserve energy and prepare for renewal. The moon phase aligns with the new moon, symbolizing rest and new beginnings, which fits perfectly with the menstrual phase’s natural rhythm.

My Herbal Blend for Day 4: Menstrual Phase Blend "Closing the Portal"

I crafted a specific herbal blend to support this phase, combining herbs, mushrooms, and adaptogens that align with TCM principles and my cycle syncing goals. Here’s what I included:

  • Nettle: Rich in iron and minerals, nettle supports blood health and replenishes nutrients lost during menstruation.

  • Oatstraw: Calming and nourishing, oatstraw helps soothe the nervous system and supports adrenal health.

  • Lemon balm: Known for its calming effects, lemon balm eases anxiety and promotes restful sleep.

  • Red raspberry leaf: Traditionally used to tone the uterus and ease menstrual cramps.

  • Rose petals: Gentle and uplifting, rose petals support emotional balance.

  • Calendula: Anti-inflammatory and healing, calendula supports tissue repair.

  • Chamomile: Soothes digestive discomfort and calms the mind.

  • Ginger: Warms the body and reduces inflammation.

  • Reishi mushroom: An adaptogen that supports immune function and reduces stress.

This blend feels like a warm, nurturing hug during a time when my body asks for softness and care.

What I Ate and How It Supported My Cycle

During the menstrual phase, I focus on warm, nutrient-dense foods that are easy to digest. Here’s what I included in my vegan meals:

  • Steamed root vegetables: Sweet potatoes and carrots provide gentle energy and fiber.

  • Cooked leafy greens: Spinach and kale offer iron and magnesium.

  • Warm herbal teas: Besides my menstrual blend, I sipped ginger and chamomile teas throughout the day.

  • Legumes and Grains: lentils and quinoa leave me full and offer great nutrition

Eating this way helped me feel grounded and supported during my body’s natural detox process. Find recipes here.

How I Felt Through the Process

Tracking my feelings alongside my cycle syncing practice has been eye-opening. On day 4 of menstruation (day 10 of tracking), I noticed:

  • A deep sense of calm after drinking the herbal blend. I can't physically tell if the blends are working yet- I still have cramps and low energy but I don't feel as anxious or angry.

  • Slight fatigue, which I honored by resting more and doing nature play with by kids to get some sunlight- even though it was freezing out!!

  • Mild cramping that eased with warm tea and gentle movement.

  • I felt snacky today and made an extra sweet treat using almond flour and squishy sweet dates. Recipe here.

This phase invited me to slow down and listen closely to my body’s signals.

Why Cycle Syncing with Herb Blends Makes a Difference

Cycle syncing is about tuning into the natural fluctuations of your body and supporting each phase with appropriate care. Using herb blends tailored to each phase helps address specific needs like inflammation, energy, and emotional balance.

For me, combining cycle syncing with herbal wisdom has:

  • Improved my awareness of bodily changes.

  • Helped reduce menstrual discomfort.

  • Supported emotional well-being.

  • Encouraged a more mindful approach to self-care.

If you’re exploring cycle syncing, consider how herbs can enhance your experience. Start with gentle blends like mine during menstruation and adjust as you learn what your body prefers.

Embracing the Cycle with Intention

My experience on day 4 of menstruation has deepened my respect for the natural rhythms of the body. Cycle syncing combined with thoughtful herb blends offers a way to honor these changes with kindness and intention.

I encourage you to observe your own cycle, experiment with herbal support, and create rituals that nurture your unique needs. This practice is not about perfection but about connection and care.
